What is Mercerization?

Mercerization is a process applied to cellulosic fibers – typically cotton to increase luster. It is done after weaving. Early on it was found that the process also had secondary benefits: the mercerized fibers were able to absorb more dye, making the color of the dyed cloth brighter and deeper. The difference is dramatic: mercerization increases the absorption of dyestuffs by as much as 25%. Not only is the color brighter, it also gives the cloth a better resistance to multiple washings, keeping the colors bright and unchanged over time. In addition to increasing luster and affinity to dyestuffs, the treatment increases strength, smoothness, resistance to mildew, and also reduces lint.

Great spiritual guidebook for the creative soul!
Format: Paperback
Janice Elsheimer has written a wonderful guidebook for Christian creatives, helping to unlock and unleash their God given gifts of talent for a purpose much higher than their own artistic satisfaction. Scripture verses anchor the chapters, along with soul-searching exercises, making this a very much needed manual to help spiritually lead creatives to a deeper relationship with The Creator. The dozen people in our first group at our Methodist church in East Texas are really being ignited into creative action and are excited and encouraged each week as they experience their newfound creative DNA being awakened and revealed to them. Bravo and much gratitude to a great book and a great author!

Unsure about your creative gifts?
Format: Paperback
Creativity usually isn't a gift recognized within most churches and, consequently, anyone wanting to use their gifts within that context face discouragement and isolation. Janice Elsheimer recognizes this struggle in her book, The Creative Call: An Artist's Response to the Way of the Spirit. A book applicable to individual or group study, she walks readers simple steps to reclaim that creative spirit. Using practical applications, examples from her own life and exercises within the book, the reader is able to work through stumbling blocks that may inhibit their own growth and, probably most importantly, given permission and affirmation that indeed, their gifts are important and have a place within the modern church.

We LOVED this book!
Format: Paperback
I got a small group together to read and do the exercises in the book. We LOVED the book! I could re-read it every year for the rest of my life, and probably will. Our group have made a lot of changes in our individual art practices, such as seeing it as sacred time between us and God, and putting it ahead of chores. Setting limits with family is still difficult, as we see our ministry to our family to be just as important, but we have made, as a whole, a lot of progress thanks to Janice!
