c. 1940s-1950s; Simmons Manufacturing Co. - Kenosha, WI
A tall, four-drawer steel dresser finished in a soft cream enamel-one of Simmons' signature post-war colors for their sanitary, metal-bodied case goods. The rounded corners, inset drawer faces, and brass cup pulls give it a clean, utilitarian presence. The top drawer includes an internal divider, while the three lower drawers offer full open storage. Built for longevity and daily use, this example reflects Simmons' mid-century approach to durable home and institutional furnishings.
Simmons, founded in the late 19th century and widely known for bedding, expanded significantly into metal furniture during the early-to-mid 20th century, producing rust-resistant, easy-to-clean casework that became a standard in schools, hospitals, and modernizing households.
Paint wear, scratches, scattered soiling, and areas of finish loss are present throughout, consistent with age and long-term use.
